This data is broadcast by the GPS navigator and no data is sent from the AV-30 back to the GPS unit. The AV-30 provides an RS-232 receive line for “aviation†or “moving map†output provided by virtually every panel mount GPS navigator in service. Q: What level of GPS integration is supported? Knowing now I think I would consider leaving the mechanical gyros in there and simply Overhauled the malfunctioning mechanical DG. And then you dont know how good it is till you actually fly it. So in essence replace both units and be leery of doing it piecemeal. MY DG quit so I decided to buy just one unit and configure it as a gyro which is easily done, but considering all the vacuum hoses and the pain it is removing only the vacuum plumbing for one unit and after doing it I can assure anyone that it is better to remove the bulky vacuum system and replace all of it at once with the AV-30 much easier and much roomier to work with than to fight the hoses and the bulkiness of two mechanical gyros. Another point is to get two units at once even if you need to change just a single Gyro. Anyway I am mostly done just got to take it up and fly it around a bit. It is hard to get under the Panel to hook that up and to make it with a none standard size is worse. The whole thing is a pain in the butt because of a plug.

I placed my install off for a week because I had to order a lost #4 nut which is not a standard size either for that RS 232 plug. The #4 screws are really too small, maybe they have squirrels designing them, a number 6 screws will do just as well but they are harder to loose.

The problem that I found is that the RS 232 serial plug is way too small for my hands. The unit an AV-30c is pretty good the display is wonderful and is responsive. I cant wait to be able to put one in a type certified airplane after they receive approval. The AV-30 has more features built in than any other mini EFIS display as of today. display and will swap back and forth between modes. In VFR cruise I usually use either the HSI display or EFIS arc. I have the AV-30 serial data input connected to my aera 660 GPS unit and they work very well together.

It allows the unit to match the vintage of the aircraft or taste of the pilot. The customize-able horizon depiction and fonts is a nice touch. The screen is bright and beautiful and is the best one I have seen to date. The AV-30 also doesnt require GPS signals for its attitude solution which can be a safety issue with some of the others. The AV-30 attitude solution is something I would trust implicitly in IMC. I own G5s, GRT Mini GA and Sandia Quattros. It has the most solid attitude indications in the business. I have been flying an AV-30 for months in an experimental aircraft. I own and fly multiple aircraft and dont have a business affiliation with Aerovonics or uAvionix.
